Adult High School

McLain Graduates wearing purple caps and gowns.

McLain Community High School has two adult education programs. The Adult Diploma Program is a diploma-seeking program in which students attend classes and earn credits; the GED program is designed to help students who have completed some high school coursework supplement their skills and content knowledge to pass the GED test. Both programs are inclusive of adult students of all ages and educational backgrounds.

Adult Diploma Program

The Adult Diploma day program is focused on helping students earn credits to complete their Jeffco high school diploma. Our population is made up of students aged 18 and up. While the Adult Diploma may look like a comprehensive high school schedule, it is flexible enough to accommodate students’ work and family obligations.

Students are engaged in smaller core classes that encourage a sense of community and belonging and allow for effective support in instruction. They are required to attend at least three core classes per day with the option of a fourth over a six-week grading period. These periods are condensed, allowing for the recovery of a semester’s worth of credit in six weeks.

The Adult Diploma program is designed to emulate a work environment in that students learn the soft skills necessary to be successful in today’s job market. Students who attend the day program are expected to complete an induction program called Discovery to prepare them for their core academic classes. Through Discovery, students learn skills like collaboration, effective communication and self-advocacy. In addition, they have the opportunity to explore career, technical and higher education pathways.

The Adult Diploma program facilitates the skill acquisition necessary for students to be successful in their academic, personal and professional endeavors. This approach encourages students to take ownership of their direction so their paths will carry them wherever they wish to go.
