CAPA - Adult Diploma Program
Overview
Our adult diploma program is focused on helping students earn credits to complete their Jeffco high school diploma. Our population is made up of students aged 17.5 and up. While the program may look like a comprehensive high school schedule, it is flexible enough to accommodate students’ work and family obligations.
Students are engaged in smaller core classes that encourage a sense of community and belonging and allow for personalized support in instruction. Day students are required to attend at least three core classes Monday through Friday over a six-week grading period. Night students attend two classes per night on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. These periods are condensed, allowing for the recovery of a semester’s worth of credit in six weeks.
The Adult Diploma program is designed to emulate a work environment in that students learn the soft skills necessary to be successful in today’s job market. Students in the day program are expected to complete an induction course called Discovery to prepare them for their core academic classes. Through Discovery, students learn skills like collaboration, effective communication and self-advocacy. In addition, they have the opportunity to explore career, technical and higher education pathways.
The Adult Diploma program facilitates the skill acquisition necessary for students to be successful in their academic, personal and professional endeavors. This approach encourages and supports students in taking ownership of their direction so their paths will carry them wherever they wish to go.
