Travel Opportunities

The McLain Travel Club was founded in 2018 by Achieve teachers Brooke Dzara and Katy Waskey to bring the world into the classroom.

Since the spring of 2019, McLain students have traveled to England, France, Italy, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. This year, students and teachers will even have the opportunity to travel to Australia.

Thanks to this school-based travel program, students get a chance to see the world through an educational lens. Students have the opportunity to broaden their minds, expand their horizons and travel the world with their peers and their teachers. The travel program allows students to earn high school and college credit, and even receive additional opportunities to apply to scholarships for postsecondary educational opportunities. 

Students who have traveled with this program have expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to create lifelong memories with their friends and teachers in awe-inspiring settings. Staff have had the privilege to see students come back with new friendships that will last a lifetime and life-altering experiences they will cherish forever. 

Students have reported that these adventures have permanently changed their outlooks on life to be more positive, altered their career aspirations and taught them how to better engage with the people in the world around them. 

Travel Support

The McLain Travel Club supports students through the sign-up and payment processes, helps coordinate student-led fundraising efforts, and holds monthly meetings to help students be prepared for all things travel. 

McLain uses well-known student travel companies to accompany students around the world in the safest and most secure ways possible. EF Tours, the main travel company used for the McLain Travel Club, is the most widely used student travel company in the world.

McLain agrees with EF Tours on the amazing ways in which student travel changes lives, and this has been McLain’s mission since the first day of the McLain Travel Club. 

Tour Experiences

On McLain tours, students have had the opportunities to: 

• Take a riverboat cruise around Paris to see the Eiffel Tower and Notre Dame.
• Take a cooking class with professional chefs in Italy.
• Walk through the Roman Colosseum.
• Take a ride up the London Eye to see the city in its glory.
• Take a ferry across the Irish Sea.
• Explore castles and ruins across Europe.
• Tour famous museums like the Louvre in Paris and the Epic Museum in Ireland.
• Interact with Scottish Highland cows in a forest in Scotland.
