Our School

Our mission is simply to provide an alternate path to a life of learning, opportunity, and choice.

McLain Community High School is more than just one school. McLain’s unique design provides a variety of school programs housed at one location. Our programs have been tailored to meet the needs of the diverse students and families that we support. Students earn their high school diploma by completing the graduation requirements as outlined by Jefferson County Public Schools.

Our programs prepare students to be college and work ready upon graduation. Students are provided opportunities that encourage self-confidence and success. Our personalized communication with parents and guardians also supports our students in their education.

McLain students come to us for a variety of reasons. The majority of students at McLain are working, parenting, volunteering and/or are enrolled in Warren Tech programs. Our students are motivated and successful!

McLain has a learning community for every learner.  Our youth communiities include two ACE (Alternative Cooperative Education) programs: The ACE and Achieve learning communities emphasize the importance of being prepared to work in addition to being college ready. McLain also provides the LIVE program designed for students in the 9th and 10th grade with 0 – 4 credits; no age minimum. McLain LIVE provides an experiential, direct instruction, highly interactive alternative for students. For those students who are older than 18, McLain has an adult high school program, CB, with both day and evening schedules.

For our students who are also parents, McLain provides affordable child care services during the day.
